Durable Jumpring
Date:October 20, 2011
Pros: Size, Price, Quality
Other beading styles or techniques: seed beadwork, wire wrapping
Creation: have not been able to use them yet as the finish does not match any of my clasps
"I purchased these jumprings as I was looking for something large enough to use with my handcrafted hook clasps and I needed the rings to be open yet strong. At 18 ga these are indeed very strong and will not open up accidently in a finished piece of jewelry.
However I found that the brushed satin finish does not look quite right with the shiny gold wire that I fashion my clasps from. Though the color of the gold is a match the tone of the shiny and the matte doesn't really work together. I think these would work up beautifully in a chain maille necklace or bracelet where all the rings are the same Hamilton gold finish. Also being of such a heavy gauge they are a little harder to open and then realign, which I guess is to be expected."
